Book Description

A new foundational text in interreligious dialogue in the Catholic Church.

Eminent theologian Dermot Lane has prepared an informed report of progress in the Catholic Church on dialogue with other religions. He shows that interreligious dialogue is no longer an option, but is rather part of what it means to be Catholic in the twenty-first century. Adopting a pneumatological approach to dialogue with other religions, Lane shows how a theology of the Holy Spirit is key to unlocking the riches of other religions.

"Dermot Lane has insightfully and clearly interpreted the signs of the times for contemporary Catholic theology. . . . By exploring the relevance of the Holy Spirit to our fundamental theological problems, Dr. Lane has given us a Spirit-centered theology that should be pondered by anyone wondering how Catholic theology can go forward in a multi-religious world. Highly recommended."—Terrence Tilley, Fordham University

Dermot A. Lane is president of the Mater Dei Institute of Education, a college of Dublin City University, a parish priest at Balally in south Dublin, and a frequent lecturer in the United States. A coeditor of The New Dictionary of Theology (Liturgical, 1993), his many books include The Experience of God: An Invitation to Do Theology (Paulist, 2005).
